However, she was cutting only 1 tooth on the bottom, not 2. So we decided to give it a few more days to let the baby tooth loosen up and then take her to the dentist. This past Friday, was the big day for her. We kept telling her that the dentist was probably going to pull her tooth, BUT the tooth fairy would come that night! She was actually VERY excited! She kept asking me every day last week if that day was the day she was going.
Once we got to the dentist, he took one look at her and explained to me what Makenzie had was Ectopic Eruption of teeth. Her permanent teeth were growing in BEHIND her baby teeth. Dr. Thomas told me that he usually pulls all 4 front teeth when this happens to help make room for the new teeth, but he wanted to start with the front 2 teeth for now. Over the next 4 months he is going to watch and see if the 2 permanent teeth move forward into their proper place. If they don't then he will pull the next 2 teeth. After a little gas, some topical anesthetic, and an injection to numb her mouth, she was toothless! And YES, the tooth fairy came that night! At 6am Saturday morning, Glen and I had a VERY excited little girl tapping us saying "mommy daddy, the tooth fairy came!!!" We quickly acknowledged her and instructed her back to bed for another few hours! :)
this is shortly after getting home, she is still alittle loopy! |
