"Look! There are Ants!"

This week I took the kids for their yearly eye exams. Makenzie has been going to see Dr Terry more than Wesley due to a weak muscle in her right eye. This is something that she was born with. We really started noticing it when she was old enough to eat in her high chair. She would start to get in a daze and then her eye would start to roll back in her head. At first it was scary because we were not sure what was going on. Thankfully, after ruling out several things, we learned that she is cross eyed. That is what the Dr is calling the muscle weakness in her eye. Over the past 3 years her teachers have noticed her eye "floating" and they have mentioned it to me. We took her to the dr a year ago and he wanted us to bring her back in 6 months. Well, life took over and we didn't get back to see him till Thursday. After examining her eyes Dr Terry said the muscle has not strengthened at all in a year. He said there were two options : 1- glasses or 2-surgery.
I said "surgery needs to be the LAST resort!" So off we went to get glasses. Needless to say she was beyond excited! It KILLED her to have to wait a day before they were ready.
Now that she has them, she thinks they are a new fashion accessory. She switches out her two pair all the time. She says she has a "serious pair" and a "fun pair". Hahahaha!
One funny thing that happened after she got her glasses, was a comment she made. We stopped by Glen's office to show him the glasses and when she got out of the van she said "wow! Look! There are ants!" as if she had never seen them before! It was quite funny! Bless her heart, a whole new word has been opened up to her. :)
