One last get-a-way

Excited to see the animals!
This past Tuesday, Glen took off work and we headed off to New Orleans for the day. One last trip before school starts! Our friends, Jessica Smith and her two kids, Caleb and Autumn, joined us on our adventure (Byron would have come but he had to work).
We started off the day at the New Orleans Zoo.  The kids had so much fun petting and seeing all the neat animals.  I think the animals were smarter than us, though. They were actually laying in the shade and we were the ones walking around in the heat!
After the zoo, we headed downtown for dinner.  We ate a classic New Orleans shrimp, po-boy, crawfish dinner. YUMMY!  Then we had to walk dinner off so we could get some Cafe' Du Monde!  After a little window shopping, seeing a very interesting funeral procession, and witnessing a beautiful sunset we headed back to Cafe' Du Monde.  Let me just say that nothing is yummier than ending your day with a hot and powdery beignet! YUMMO!!!
Monkeys checking out the monkeys!
Very proud of her! She was much braver than her mommy!
Yummy dessert!
Window shopping!
Autumn getting every last bit of powder sugar off her plate!
We saw a very INTERESTING funeral procession while window shopping.  Jazz band was playing while the mourners had their "stiff" drinks in hand.
Beautiful sunset over Jefferson Square
Makenzie enjoying her beignet!
