Yesterday while I was having a "girl day" with my little girl, I caught a moment of fox news in the nail salon. Gretchen Carlson was interviewing 2 players from the Team USA women's soccer team. At the end of the interview, Gretchen gave her "take away". I sat there watching Gretchen talk about what life is really about when it comes to team sports, perseverance and goals. Glen and I do not believe every kid should get a trophy. We do not even attend the trophy ceremonies where our children play sports because they give trophies to all the kids, even if they haven't won a single game! We want our children to learn at an early age that they will not always win in life. They may not make the best grade, get in to the best college, get turned down for a job, etc. If they do not learn these things now, then we are not doing our children any favors.
Do we want our children to be happy? YES! Do we want them to have fun? YES! But do we want them to work hard at everything they do? Definitely YES! If we are always rewarding our children with trophies and prizes for every single thing they do or even attempt to do, then why would they ever want to give anything their "all" and work hard?
We realize everyone doesn't believe the same as we do. But I hope you will take a moment and hear what Gretchen Carlson has to say.
Well said Mrs. Carlson, well said!
