Bright Beginnings Academy

Bright Beginnings Academy is a HUGE blessing to our family. When Makenzie was in 1st grade she was diagnosed as Dyslexic. Her teacher, Mrs. Gina Englund, stepped out on faith that summer and opened Bright Beginnings Academy. After teaching in the public and private school sector for over 25 years, Mrs. Gina continued to see students who struggled with learning processing difficulties. After further training and advanced education, she opened Bright Beginnings Academy in August 2013.  The school started with Makenzie as the only student and 2 teachers. By December 2013 the school had grown to 4 students. The 2014 school year started with 8 students and has now grown to 10 with plans to have 24 students for the 2015/2016 school year. Bright Beginnings is the only full time school on the gulf coast that specializes in Dyslexia education for grades 1-6 with hopes to add higher grades in the future.

What is Dyslexia? Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that is neurological in origin. It is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and by poor spelling and decoding abilities. Simply defined as an individual of average or above intelligence, who struggles to read, write and spell in spite of exposure to adequate instruction. It may also include difficulties in mathematical reasoning. Dyslexics, however, are likely to have a greater appreciation for color, tone, and texture. Their grasp of two-dimensional and three-dimensional form is more acute. They can visualize their art before reaching for the paint brush, and their imagination will allow them to go beyond the norm and create new and innovative expression. In other words, they are creative!

There is SO much I could and will say about Dyslexia and Bright Beginnings Academy, but I will post more later. If you want to learn more about Bright Beginnings Academy please visit the website www.brightdyslexics.com
