This past weekend, Glen and I were blessed to be able to enjoy a getaway with 11 other couples from our church. We escaped for the weekend to Gulf Shores for a chance to fully focus on our marriage. The weekend was facilitated by Ricky Butts who used the book, "I Promise" by Dr. Gary Smalley. It was very refreshing and renewing to look at the 5 different areas of commitment that couples make to one another. In a way, it was like we were "renewing" our vows all over again. We did have homework after each session which gave us the opportunity to rethink and refocus on different areas of our marriage. Even though Ricky picked out the "high points" in the book, I would highly recommend it to anyone.
This weekend also gave us a chance to get to know several couples better that we attend church with. We enjoyed visiting, relaxing in the pool, lounging on the patio, and playing LATE night games with everyone. We are truly thankful for the wonderful church family that we are part of! We are looking forward to strengthening these friendships and having many more retreats in the future!
